Model CAM A/B is a Continuous Air Monitoring system with independent Alpha and Beta Channels. CAM A/ B is designed and manufactured indigenously by Para Electronics Mfg. Division of Electronic Enterprises (I) Pvt. Ltd. for Continuous Monitoring of Alpha and/or Beta activity in the surrounding atmosphere.
Electronic flow measurement enables user to get the activity reading in Bq/M3, Time totalized air flow measurement provides information on the amount of air sampled in the given time. However, CAM system is also available with standard Rotameter type air flow measurement providing only CPM Display. There is no interaction between air flow lines, since independent pumps are used for Alpha and Beta channels.
Connectivity of CAM to network or PC is provided through RS-485 /RS 232. Modbus based Data Transfer software is supplied as an option.
Continuous Air Monitoring System CAM is housed in 19” mechanical trolley with two compartments. These compartments house the main electronic Instrument on the top side. Alpha/Beta detectors, lead shield for Beta channel, Flow measurement, Sample Changing mechanisms and two independent Air Sampling Pumps are housed in the lower compartments.
Standard version of CAM A/B includes
Alpha Channel with 2” dia ZnS(Ag) scintillation detector mounted on 2” dia PMT, Air Sampling System with electronic flow meter, Easy-to- Replace Filter Paper Holder Arrangement, 100 LPM independent air sampling pumps.
Beta Channel with 20 mm dia End Window GM tube, Air Sampling System with electronic flow meter, Easy-to- Replace Filter Paper Holder Arrangement, 100 LPM separate air sampling pump
Common Electronic Microcontroller unit with independent HV supplies, Pulse Processing Circuits, Counters, Flow Measurement and Display of Air Flow, CPM and Bq/M3 for each channel. 6 digit LED display for CPM and 4 x 20 Char LCD for menu, Bq/M3, Flow and other menus
Low and High Level Count Rate Alarms, 4-20mA output, Potential Free Relay Contact outputs, Green, Red Tower Lamps with Flasher and Audio Alarms for each channel

Keylock is provided to prevent unauthorized tampering of the set up.
2” dia ZnS(Ag) Scintillator based Alpha Detector is mounted on 2” dia PMT. Voltage Divider and Preamplifier are also housed in the detector assembly. This detector gives better than 25% efficiency.
Beta detection is done by 25mm dia GM tube type 72314 from LND USA. GM tube is covered by 25 mm thick lead shield to reduce the gamma background. Beta efficiency is around 10 ~12%
Electronic Flow sensors are employed for measurement of air flow in LPM. The flow totalizer gives the integrated value of air volume that has passed through the filter paper in the given time. This gives accurate estimates of Bq/M3.
These flow sensors are calibrated against standard turbine type flow meter for the range 20 to 100 LPM
Two independent air sampling pumps with 117 LPM (free air) capacity are used for Alpha and Beta Channels. Use of separate pumps removes any interaction of air flow between Alpha and Beta channels.
Since Air Flow measurement is carried out by electronic flow meter, conventional Rotameters are not required in the air line. Air flow is adjusted by the vent valves provided at the inlet side of the pump(s).
Elegant yet simple, design of CAM enables user to change the filter paper(s) without disturbing the detector mounting arrangement. Air Sampling Pumps are rated for continuous operation. Rotameter flow measurement is also possible as an alternative to electronic flow measurement.
CAM is also available in only Alpha, only Beta or both Alpha and Beta versions.

Alpha Particulate Monitor Model PAM-1 developed by Para Electronics consists of
following subsystems
Detector, Preamplifier, Filter Paper Holder
Instrument for data collection
Panel PC for display, operation control, data storage and communication
Vacuum pump
UPS
Complete system is assembled on a trolley. System consists of a detector, preamplifier
with filter paper holder. Detector is Ion Implanted Silicon Detector.Pre-Amplifier
is directly mounted on the detector.Active area of the detector faces the filter
paper.Filter paper is kept inside the filter paper holder
Preamplifier requires +12V and -12V supply. Detector bias voltage is around 30 volts.
Multicore cable with one coaxial is used to carry the necessary voltage and the
preamplifier output between the preamplifier and the instrument. 6 pin allied connector
is used at the instrument end. Cable is directly soldered to PCB at the preamplifier
end.
Power supply for the instrument consists of +5V SMPS for digital circuits. For +12
and -12V, linear supply is used. Inside the instrument, there is a power supply
card and the MCA card. Necessary bias for the detector is generated on the power
supply card.
Preamplifier output first goes to spectroscopy amplifier. Rise time of the amplifier
output is 1.2 uS. Amplifier output is then given to 10 bit Wilkinson type ADC. Necessary
signals for control of ADC are generated by the main controller C8051F340. This
controller also handles the USB communication with the panel PC. Spectrum collected
by 1K channel MCA is first stored in the internal memory of the PC. Then after every
second, the spectrum is transferred to software package which runs on the panel
PC. The spectrum collected by the MCA is displayed on the PC screen. Many other
features like data storage are available in the package.
Mains supply is routed through the spike guard. Vacuum pump is connected on the
mains line whereas the instrument and the panel PC are connected to the UPS as shown
the block diagram. UPS capacity is 500 VA. This gives backup time of at least 1
hour in case of power failure.
Vacuum pump capacity is 100 LPM. Normal suction rate through filter paper is 40
LPM. This generates back pressure on the pump and results in pump failure. Bypass
valve is connected on the suction line of the pump as shown in the diagram to avoid
the back pressure on the vacuum pump.

They are fitted in steel frames covered with SS covers. The inner sides of the detectors are covered with a thin plastic sheet. Detector electronics includes HV supply, preamplifier, amplifier and single channel analyzer are housed in a pluggable encloser on the PMT socket. TTL outputs from both the channels serve as input to the counters used in the readout unit.
Readout unit uses Silab microcontroller which indicates the counts and background of both channels on 4 x 20-character LCD. 8 Keys are also provided to carry out the setup, which allows user to select the operating mode, counting time, background counts and alarm counts. Portal Monitor, Model RPM-1, uses PIR sensor, camera and IR based occupancy sensors to detect and record the presence of person. Image of the person & contamination level are recorded on PC which is coupled through ethernet.
Portal Monitor, Model RPM-1 offers two modes of operation, i.e. Walk-Through and Stop & Count. In Walk Through mode, person can simply walk through the portal and the measurement is carried out while the person is crossing the frame. In Stop & Count mode, person is expected to stand in the frame for set duration of time. Measurement is completed when the person moves out of the frame. Capturing the photo of the person, detection of presence of person in the portal frame, is done while the person is approaching the frame and then passing through it.
Information acquired by camera and detectors is communicated to PC, connected through ethernet cable. This information is permanently stored in PC memory for viewing later. Software written for this application allows user to see the alarm status, counts information and photo of the person at a remote location. Detector fail, high background, Count Rate alarm conditions are detected and indicated locally on tower lamp with audio alarm. User can carry out setup through PC software as well. This information is also displayed on PC, LCD as well as on the remote alarm indication and display box supplied as an option.
